Rustic Barn Landscape Painting, Rural Landscape, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 9x12x.75" Palette Knife Painting

Last month, my friends and I went on a photo shoot in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  We rode the country roads, looking for scenic farms.

Purchase here
I couldn't resist this old ragged barn, on it's last legs.  I painted with a palette knife hoping to bring the scene to life.

It was a hot September day and the grasses had turned a golden brown.

How nice to be an artist.  I truly believe we train our eyes to see so much beauty, that often goes unnoticed in  daily life.  What a blessing we have!

Thanks for reading my blog today.....and stop to smell the roses.

Yesterday's News, Coastal Landscape, Florida Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting

Purchase Here

The waterways of Florida are littered with abandoned boats, that have been destroyed by the hurricanes of the last few years. Unscrupulous owners, remove the boat registrations, walk away with their insurance money, and leave it to the counties to remove the damaged boats. In most cases, the counties do not have funds, so the boats sit in the waters.

Summer landscape painting, Palette Knife Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 6x8" Oil on panel

January and February.....the months when winter days grow dreary!  I feel that way too, and decided it was the perfect time to paint something bright and cheery.

Just a little reminder of summer and warmer days ahead!

architecture painting, daily painter, house painting, impressionist house painting, landscape painting,

This little cottage is on my morning walking route in North Carolina.  I am also attracted to the patterns of light on this little house, snuggled up to the trees.

purchase here

The atmosphere is isolated woodlands, but in fact, this is a law office on Main Street in the town of Waynesville, NC.

I hope you all have a wonderful day!

Small Landscape Painting, Cabin in the Woods, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 6x8" oil on panel

This is a small painting I did last fall.  We have moved from Florida to North Carolina, and this one was overlooked in the craziness of an interstate move.   Deep breath......it is all over now!

Purchase here

I often passed this cabin, on my daily walks.  I am always inspired by the beauty surrounding me during my walks.  The cabin looked so charming, nestled in the trees, with spots of sunlight hitting it.

This piece is a combination of brush and palette knife.

I have gone without painting for several months due to my move.  I am anxious to return to my new (small) studio, and begin this new version of my daily routine.  I hope I remember how to paint!

Floral Landscape, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting "Summer Wildflowers", 6x8" Oil on Panel

One of my guilty pleasures, when I am in the Blue Ridge Mountains, is my morning walk, which inspired this painting.

purchase here

You would have to live a summer or two in Florida, to understand how much I enjoy walking in mid 70's temps in the middle of summer.

detail

Of course, I also admire the songbirds and gorgeous, towering, hardwood trees.  It's not really a guilty pleasure, as it is hard work walking 4 miles when at least half of it is up the side of a mountain.

Here's hoping you have a wonderful day.

Mountain Wildflowers, Floral Landscape, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 8x6" Oil on Panel SOLD

Last fall, we took a ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  It was a crisp, sunny day and my camera was busy clicking away.

SOLD

It's hard to go wrong with a blue and yellow painting.....it just shouts "Cheerful".  The background was painted  with a brush, but I used a palette knife on the flowers and grasses.  That's when it started to be really fun!

I feel like I was able to capture the feel of the day......I hope it made you smile!

Hometown Train Station, Landscape Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 11x14 Landscape

I have felt the need to paint buildings, or other landmarks that man has left on our planet.....maybe even "man" himself.  Most of my paintings, landscapes, seascapes, floral, are organic shapes and I wanted to try some straight lines!

I found this image of the old train station in my hometown of Wauseon, Ohio.  It looks exactly as I remembered it.

Naturally, I tightened up.....really tightened up!  This is not what I wanted!  I want a loose building, one that looks comfortable on the canvas.  Now I am beginning to remember why I don't paint buildings.

I am hoping this is just a matter of practice, practice, practice.  My plan is to try again and again.

Fall Landscape Tree Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 9x12 Autumn Painting

I might live in Florida, but in the fall, I want to see orange and red trees.   So I always head to North Carolina for my autumn fix.  Well technically, it is still autumn!

Purchase Here
I call this painting "Big Brother" for obvious reasons.  It was really the small dogwood tree that caught my eye.  How could I miss it....right outside my window?

Fall colors can be so bright, it is easy to overdue them in paintings.  My goal here was to paint something believable even though my eyes and my brain we telling me it could be brighter.

A Daily Painter Questions the BIG PLAN

Traditionally, January is when we evaluate our performance over the last twelve months, and look at the direction we are headed.

Artistically, I see nothing but question marks.  I want to have a clear plan, a path to follow and mark my progress, but alas, it evades me.

I looked through my posts from last year, and picked out my favorite pieces, hoping against hope that they will tell me where I am headed.

 Abstract Expressionism?

Maybe....

Thick Paint?

 Impressionism?

 Brushwork?
 Knife?

Really thin paint?

Or does it really matter?

All this thinking is making my head hurt!

I am happy I found this many pieces, from last year, that speak to ME.  I am happy with them which makes me happy with me.

Maybe 2017 will find me treading the straight and narrow.....but somehow, I don't think so.

Thank you all, for joining me on my crazy, unplanned journey!
