"HUMMINGBIRD MOTH & SIBERIAN IRISES" by Mindy Lighthipe

 

The tiny little hummingbird moth hovers over flowers and zooms around the garden just like a real hummingbird only tinier! This fellow zoomed in and out of these Siberian Irises in my garden and I just had to paint it!

Hens and chicks are a favorite in my garden. I love they way they group and readily multiply as they spill over rocks and create a wonderful ground cover. Here I played with variation in mixing greens. It was interesting to see how many shades of green were in such a small section. I magnified the drawing to give it impact and stand out. Such small things are often overlooked.

Purple is my favorite color. When I saw this beautiful double trumpet Datura I knew I would have to have it in my garden! Every year it grows and drops its seeds. Any burst of cold weather in Florida will kill the plant but the wonderful seed heads burst open and the plant rejuvenates itself. It is breath taking and easy to grow!
