The Burrowing Owl is a very small ground dwelling owl. I was really surprised when I saw them. I thought they would be bigger but they only stand about 6-8 inches tall. They live in small burrows int he ground much like prairie dogs. They scurry around the ground and if a predator gets close they rapidly run down into the hole. This little guy was a delight to watch. I went with a friend to a place in Cape Coral which is known for protecting these endangered owls. He came out of the burrow and started to stretch his wings. I had such a great time that day and hope to do more paintings of these delightful little owls! This listing is for an original watercolor. It is on Fabriano 140 lb watercolor paper.

The Great Blue Heron is a common wading bird throughout the USA. It is super common here where I live in Florida. This juvenile was making all kinds of noises at the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive. He kept opening his mouth and ruffling his head feathers. He was a quawky teenager with a mohawk! He was a successful hunter and caught a fish while I watched.
