Daily Painting, Birds, "Pelican Patrol" 6x18"

You may notice that these are not your everyday type of pelicans.  Most pelicans are brown and gray and kind of dull, unless they are a breeding male, their heads turn yellow during breeding season.

These beautiful birds, are larger, and a little on the rare side.  I found these in Sebastian, Florida where a large colony lives.

I think they are much more attractive with their brightly colored orange beaks and feet.  They seem to get along just fine with the brown guys.

Daily Oil Painting, Birds, "Waverunners" 12x12" SOLD

These birds were my constant companions on early morning walks on the beaches of Sanibel.

SOLD

After 40+ years of seeing the sun rise over the Atlantic, it seemed odd to see it rise from behind the dunes at the Gulf of Mexico.

I used both brush and palette knife on this one.  I like the contrast of texture achieved in this way.

The birds ignored me and my camera, knowing they could move much faster then I can.

OTTER,6X8, OIL, SOLD

Don't you think otters are just the cutest things on earth?  I love the way they swim on their backs.  The only thing I don't love is when they catch the baby ducks and chow down...but that is nature!

I have been out of town the last week or so.  I want to thank everyone who was so kind to review my blog each day and especially those of you who left such nice comments.  I am really behind the eight ball at the moment with lots of projects to check off the list, so I probably won't get around to replying to each one of you individually, but I want you to know how important you are to me.  I take great pride in your comments and appreciate all the specifics you mention.  It helps me have insight into how my work appears to others.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!  I hope to get back to my daily browsing of your sites soon.

My dear mother closed her eyes for the last time on April 27th.  This is the last post that I had scheduled ahead.  I find I need a little more time, so I will not be posting for another week or two.  I know you will understand.

BRANDY, 6X8, OIL, SOLD

Brandy is a sweetheart of a dog.  She lives with a friend of mine.  Carla and Brandy spend time visiting nursing homes and bringing a little joy into the lives of the residents they meet.  I know how important this is because my mother lived in a nursing home.  She always tells me when someone brings a dog in.  She is a dog lover from way back and it is amazing how a minute or two with a dog will brighten her day.  Thanks, Carla!

Daily Painting| Wildlife Art | Bird Painting| Small Oil Painting | The Hunt by Carol Schiff 8x10" Oil

We spent a few days on Sanibel recently.  It is such a lovely experience, like living in the middle of a nature preserve.

I ran into this guy on an early morning walk.  He was under the causeway and all business.

It was only a matter of minutes before he had his breakfast.

It must have been a favorite fishing spot in the area, because he was surrounded by lazy pelicans (they were watching, not working) and several fishermen in boats.  None of this seem to bother him.
